Here’s what to expect when you start therapy
If you’re a busy mom or young professional in South Carolina or Virginia, the idea of starting therapy may feel overwhelming. Between work, family, and everything else on your plate, it can be hard to imagine carving out time for yourself. At Still & South Counseling, therapy is designed to fit your life while giving you a supportive space to slow down, breathe, and focus on you. Ready to start your journey? Book a free consultation.
What Happens in the First Session?
The first session (intake) is about getting to know you. We’ll explore what’s been weighing on you, what you hope to get from therapy, and how I can support you best. It’s also your chance to see if this feels like the right fit. Go ahead and schedule your first session and let’s get started!
What Therapy Approaches Are Used?
I use evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). These approaches can be especially effective for women who are:
Managing stress, anxiety, or overwhelm
Balancing the demands of motherhood or career
Working through sadness, burnout, or life transitions
Trying to let go of patterns that no longer serve them
Because my style is trauma-informed, every session is grounded in compassion and safety. You’ll never be pushed to share more than you’re ready for, and you’ll always have control over the process.
How Long Is Therapy?
Sessions are typically one hour, and most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly. Many clients start weekly but scale back over time to monthly check-ins. I understand that your schedule is full—whether that’s because of meetings, school events, or both—so your therapy plan is flexible. You set the pace, and we make it work around your life. Whether we meet for a few months or a few years, we’ll find the schedule that’s best for you! Click here to start your healing journey today!
